When I birthed The Sacred Womb site, I wrote something that set the tone for everything that followed. I want to share it here because it still holds the fullest answer to this question:
The womb, the void within, has been in collective hibernation for long enough, inducing shame, imbalance, pain on all levels, and estrangement from our body. The time has come for us to remember our sovereignty as co-creators, visionaries and birthers of new consciousness — to renew our connection with nature and the Great Mother.
Ponder for a moment. What if we are perfectly, perfectly designed? What if our bodies are a divine gift? And what if the eternal ebb, flow, and flood of our empowered feminine cycle brings us into our spiritual truth — balancing our health, relationships, and communities — and the unwavering crystalline structure of our empowered masculine activates our inner authority and ability to bring creation into physical form?
What would happen if we took full responsibility for this and cancelled our subscription to the old programming? If this sparks a memory — a deep soul memory — this is for you.
The Physical and The Metaphysical
We all know we have a physical womb. But even when that physical womb is no longer present — after a hysterectomy, for example — the metaphysical womb is still there. Just as people who have lost a limb can still feel it — because the energetic body remains intact — so too the womb centre persists beyond its physical form. Our sacred womb centre encompasses both the physical and the metaphysical: the womb, the ovaries, the yoni, the cervix — all of it together, as one centre.
This centre is like a matrix upon which our personal reality is built. It is the foundation, the web, the lens through which we see the world. And I have come to experience it as the epicentre of our empowerment as women. Our boundaries — the centre of them — are stored at the entrance to the yoni. The cervix is a gateway. The ovaries have their own metaphysical role. The womb has its own metaphysical role. If we are not in touch with ourselves at this level, we are simply missing out on the most fundamental source of wisdom and power we have available to us.
The Menstrual Cycle Is The Gateway In
Our intuition lives in the womb centre — connecting with the heart, connecting with the mind. There is a red river of energy that flows up and helps our womb, our heart, and our mind communicate with each other. When we cut off any part of the body, we suffer. And for centuries — longer, perhaps — we as women have been collectively shying away from our menstrual cycle.
We have found thousands of ways to ignore it. Tampons, coils, implants, pills — all of which, at a deep level, carry the message: I don’t like what I have. I wish it would go away. And that is genuinely dangerous, because what lives within this cycle — what is encoded within it — is designed to empower us.
Our menstrual cycle takes us round the cycle of life every single month. Birth, growth, realisation, release. As we move through the cycle, we are pulled into different aspects of ourselves. The ovulation phase — creative, productive, outward. The moontime phase — internal, heightened, listening inward. If the senses are heightened during bleeding, it is because they are designed to turn inward so we can really hear ourselves — and beyond. There is more than this physical reality, and our menstrual cycle is the way in.
The Sacred Womb As A Map Home
When we begin to truly work with our cycle — not perfectly, just honestly, listening most of the time — the womb centre starts to guide us. To speak to us. Not always in words. Sometimes through intuition, sometimes through physical symptoms, sometimes through what comes up in our dreams or our relationships. Our womb has a consciousness of its own, just as we know the heart does. And just as we can ask the heart what it knows when the mind is spinning, we can ask the womb.
Working with the cycle creates what I can only describe as a quickening — a speeding up of personal growth. The more cycles we work with, the more we move inward. Like a series of circles joined together into a spiral — we are going round the circle of life each month, and those circles joined together form a spiral inward. We may feel it as things surfacing faster, things we thought we had already sorted coming round again — but deeper. This is not a regression. It is the clearing of the fear and the conditioning, so that we can actually feel our true essence and let it meet the world.
Birthing New Consciousness
We birth new life through our physical womb. A spirit incarnates through our bodies. The magnitude of that is something I never tire of sitting with. But we can also birth new consciousness through our metaphysical womb. We can go deep within, contact the collective void — the collective womb — and bring that through into this reality. There are energies that want to be expressed here, and they need a physical anchor. We become not just a channel, but an embodiment. And as that energy moves through us, it works out everything within us that doesn’t match it — the fear-based patterns, the old programming, the shadow we would rather not look at.
This is our life’s work. And it is encoded within our bodies. Our sovereignty is our birthright. Nobody is stopping us. There are no witch burnings, no corporations powerful enough, nothing in the way. All we need to do is connect, do our work, and listen. One day, one cycle at a time.
Our menstrual cycle is a map — a spiral inwards, a map back home — and it goes deeper and deeper and never ends. That is not a burden. That is the most extraordinary gift.
